The practice of giving most attested in the scriptures and in Christian tradition. With a tithe, you give 10% of personal or household income to the work of the Church. The idea here is returning to God the “first fruits” of your labor, and allowing God to have the first “say” over your material resources.

impact
A modern take on an ancient idea that recognizes the interdependence of the church and wider community. “5+5” giving invites you to give 10% of your income, but divided between your local church and other individuals or organizations engaged in works of justice, peace, and mercy. For example, 5% to Bear Creek and 5% to Aid for Friends or the Free Clinic.

growth
Giving 10% might simply be unrealistic for you at this time in your life. Or maybe giving 10% is comfortable. In either case, “Stretch” giving asks you to give an amount that will put you in touch with the sacrifice, whatever that amount might be. As with fasting, maybe you’ll choose to give up a luxury – a streaming service or latte – to make space for giving.
